Nobody talks much about the pockets. All the attention goes to the fourteen clubs, and then you get to the seventh hole in the rain with a wet grip, no tees and a phone at four percent, and it turns out the pockets were the interesting part all along.
This is not a packing list for a tournament. It is the short version: the things that keep coming back out of the bag because they earned it.
A towel you can reach
On the outside, clipped, always. A towel buried under a rain jacket is a towel you will not use. Damp grips cost more shots than most swing faults.
Headcovers you can tell apart
The point of a headcover is protection, but the practical benefit is identification. When your driver, three wood and hybrid are all wearing the same black sock, you spend the round pulling covers off to check. Different colourways solve that instantly, and they look considerably better standing in the bag.
Something for your head
Sun is cumulative and rounds are long. Visor when it is hot, cap when it is bright, trucker when it is both and windy. Whichever it is, it should stay put without you touching it.
Two more tees than you think you need
You will lose one, snap one, and lend one. Round up.
A ball you actually like
Not the premium one you are saving for a good round. Play the ball you will hit freely over water. The saved ball never gets used and the fear costs you strokes.
Snacks that survive a bag
Anything that melts is a mistake. Anything that needs two hands is a mistake. Nine holes is roughly two hours and your concentration goes before your legs do.
The one thing that is not a thing
Leave the scorecard from last week in the car. Every round starts at level.
